The Datec Fiji lead software programmer was on song in the tournament beating former Fiji champion Suman Lal by four straight frames in the final.

Bala showed his class as Fiji’s top snooker player hammering Suman 98-0 in the first frame. This was the biggest winning margin recorded in the two-day event.

He went on to seal the game winning the next three frames 69-56, 70-32 and 43-42.

In the fourth frame Bala was down 25-42 but went on to clear the table to the astonishment of the crowd.

Bala failed to participate in the first NRC as he was away in New Zealand.

He won the second NRC in Suva.

Classed as Fiji’s best snooker player Bala proved his worth at the Lautoka Club in the third edition.

He defeated former Fiji number one Yogen Prasad in the semi final.

Bala won three frames to one (61-29, 43-63, 59-52, 52-17).

He is the only player in the country to record a century break.

Originally from Rakiraki, the Merchants Club of Suva player dedicated the victory to his wife Reshmi. The 28-year old said he was still peaking into form.

“It is good to win back to back,” Bala said.

“I have a lot of respect for Suman. In the final I started well. I got a chance and went for it. That big win laid the platform. The sport of snooker has certainly gone up to the next level this year. There is a lot of enthusiasm. I practise one hour on the week- days. I think I can get better.”

Suman used his experience to reach the final.

The former champion defeated Fiji number one Jiten Prasad in a lengthy quarter final on Saturday night. The match lasted five frames with Suman coming out victorious 3-2. Suman won the final frame 68-66 after needing two hooks on the pink ball.

In the semi final Suman defeated Mahen Deo of Nadi 3-1.

Bala beat Yogen Prasad 3-1 in his semi final match.

Suman said this was his first final appearance in the super premier division in ten years.

Self employed Isireli Kaci won the premier division. Kaci beat Ashneel Nand of Defence Club 3-0 in the final.
